Joomla! Open Source Content Management

Create your own website with the open source content management solution. Joomla! It is very simple to implement. Here are the steps to install Joomla! in windows XP. 

To install Joomla you need to install WAMP. WAMP contains Apache web server, Mysql database and PHP scripting language like HTML which is essential to run Joomla.

Download your Joomla! here: 

http://joomlacode.org/gf/download/frsrelease/9294/34966/Joomla_1.5.9-Stable-Full_Package.zip 

Installing in windows XP 

Step1:  Install WAMP by double clicking wampserver2.0f.exe 

Step 2: Then extract the downloaded Joomla_1.5.9-Stable-full_Package.zip to the folder   

             c:\wamp\www 

Step 3: Rename the extracted folder as you wish (Site name) eg: C:\wamp\www\abchotel 

Step 4: Go to browser:   type in the address bar : http://localhost/abchotel 

Step 5: Please follow the onscreen instruction to complete. 

(Note: pls do not give the password for Mysql at the time of installation. Please leave everything to default in Mysql screen. Pls click to install demo data which helps you to create your site faster.) 

Step 6: After installation it gives you message to delete installation folders to continue furtherer.   

Step 7: Go to C:\wamp\www\abchotel and in this folder delete the sub folder named Installation. 

Step 8: Then go to browser and type: http://localhost/abchotel 

Step 9: Now you can see your website. 

Step 10: now open another browser window and type: http://localhost/abchotel/administrator 

Step 11: Now edit your content and see the results. Enjoy.

Open source solutions are relay cool to use against paid ones. As a IT manager i'm successfully running my company's total infrastructure using open source technologies. Almost for all business needs there is an open source technology solutions. It is better then a proprietary software because these software are from multiple brain regardless of geographical limits. But currently the major proprietary vendor claims that "opens source is a bleeding end technology" and "there is no proper support". But I can say it is not bleeding edge in other way the software is ever growing. and you all know that lot of forums give open source technology supports.
